Inside the Day of a National Staffing Solutions Therapy Recruiter

Monday, August 25, 2014
As a therapist, you've most likely come in contact with your fair share of healthcare recruiters throughout your career. Do you ever wonder what a healthcare recruiter does during their work day? We know for a fact that it’s a topic of thought for some of our therapists. Some have even taken their curiosity center stage and asked their recruiter "Wait, so how did you become a therapy recruiter? How exactly do you know where jobs are for therapists?".

We decided to answer these very popular, common questions and kick the curiosity once and for all. I had the pleasure of sitting down for a carefully scheduled lunch with one of our lead therapy recruiters Megan Duncan to pick her brain about what the busy life of a therapy recruiter is like.

Like any professional in our country's recent economic history, Megan once struggled with finding a job in today’s market. "The internet is awful for finding jobs. Even with significant experience, it's hard nowadays to get feedback on applications that you send out. Businesses fill positions then don’t take down the postings or give you feedback on where you stand in the hiring process. It was very frustrating to be on the job hunt, but I gained a lot of sympathy for those searching for a position they’ll love."

Because of her job searching experiences, what Megan loves most about her recruiting career is being able to provide therapists with job opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have access to and educating them on what’s going on in the job market. "The job market is always changing. A big part of my day-to-day focuses on consistently knowing where the best areas to place my therapists are and keeping up with those changes."

Creativity is key for our recruiters. Everybody is different, and that includes all of the therapists that we work with. Each individual therapist has distinctive experiences and particular job preferences. Because no two therapists are alike, our recruiters have to be willing and able to adapt to any situation they're presented with and provide excellent client service. "Every placement has its own unique challenges. A few months ago I had a therapist come to me that wanted to work in a very specific setting and only wanted temporary-to-permanent work. I found her a position that fit exactly what she wanted and needed in her life and she absolutely loves it. She's calls me every now and then to thank me again, telling me about the amazing work she's doing and how much she loves it. Helping someone to find a job that they love doing what they love is what gets me up in the morning."

Besides the work that's done in the office, our recruiters spend their down time catering to our clients as well. Megan recounted a Saturday that she spent getting credentials in line for a new therapist so she could get her in to work that upcoming Monday. "I will do whatever it takes to ensure that a placement goes flawlessly for my therapist, even if that require some of my own personal time. It’s all worth it in the end to see them incredibly satisfied with where they’re at in their career."

Although they juggle many therapists at once all across the nation working in many different settings, our recruiters absolutely love how fast-paced their job is and wouldn't have it any other way. Placing qualified, hard-working therapists in jobs that they love where they're helping others is their passion.

"My work is an adrenaline rush, really. Each of us does tons of work for our therapists, along with making upwards of 100 calls per day and receiving several hundred job orders per week. Placing a therapist in one of those quickly filling positions on a fast-paced timeline really is exciting."
